Re-evaluate your insurance needs for your storage unit. If you are no longer going to need your policy, make sure you cancel it.
Create a donate pile, recycle pile and trash pile as you go. It's easier to touch the item once, while you're moving, and not move anything to a new location that is ultimately going to get donated, trashed or recycled. Go ahead and make these piles (or just throw them in a trash bag) as you are moving your belongings, so you can take them to the appropriate spot right then.
Bring a broom, dustpan and trash bag to sweep your storage unit out and clean up any lingering trash in front of your self-storage unit. There isn't much worse than moving everything out of your storage unit and realizing you're going to have to come back to sweep the final small bits of dust and trash out. Make sure to bring a broom, dustpan and a trash bag to dump the swept items into with you for move out. Then easily dispose of the trash bag.
Inform the site manager that your move out is complete. Once you have confirmed you are out of your storage unit, the site manager will confirm it is in the appropriate condition and swept out and then they will finalize your move out so you no longer receive a rental charge.
